Exhibit Three: Ottoman Religion
1:King John of Hungry meets with Suleiman, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, in 1556. The painting has clear Asian influences and depicts the King of Hungry kneeling deeply to the great conqueror.
2:Ornamented cavalry swords wielded by the Ottoman's elite soldiers who were conscripted largely from the Balkans at a young age and drilled to fight.
Both exhibits reperesent key aspects of Ottomon military, foreign policy, and court politics.
1:A beutifully embroidered Qu'ran showing the religous nature Ottomon art often centered itself around.
2: An Indian hand is shown holding a riding stick and controlling the elepahnt. This image highlights that the Ottoman Empire and Anatolia are the gate between Europe and Asia. This role and their access to the Mediterranean and the Black Sea made them a crucial part of world trade and global politics for centuries.
